If the patient's diet is high in sodium and low in potassium, it will create hindrance in maintaining a low blood pressure. The patient must take three healthy meals of balanced nutrients level daily to stay healthy and fit. The meals must include vegetables, fruits, rice, cereals and fish. You should try to consume more calories than your intake. If you get succeeded in reducing three hundred calories a day, you can loose one-pound weight per week. Reduction of two hundred calories will help you loosing two pounds every week.

A reasonable exercise that gets the sweat going is necessary for the patient to keep blood pressure low. A thirty minute balanced exercise is enough for patient. He should avoid over straining it can cause damage instead. Some times there is a temporary change in your blood pressure level after doing some physical activity or exercise. It is not hypertension or high blood pressure but just a sudden temporary increase. Taking rest for a while will settle the problem. Hypertension could be genetic too and transfer from parents too the offspring.

Causes of blood pressure being high also include a little different factor that is old age. Sometimes our arteries get stiffened with age. The heart has to work more to circulate the blood resulting in to high blood pressure. Some drugs and medications can also cause high blood pressure. Birth control medications in women, non-prescription medication or some narcotics can cause a slightly high blood pressure. Avoid using such medicines and see if your blood pressure is controlled or not. If it is still high, you must see your doctor. If you have hypertension problem you must quit smoking and reduce your alcohol intake so as to control your blood pressure level. Eat healthy and use little salt in your meal.
